In order to promote transparency and allow students to make informed decisions about organizations they are interested in joining, we provide organization conduct violations for the past five academic years in addition to the current academic year.

While FERPA prohibits unauthorized disclosure of information considered personally identifiable to any individual student if that information would be considered part of that student’s education record, the same rights do not apply to student organizations. Below we have also provided definitions as applicable to student organizations, including disciplinary statuses an organization may be placed on. Included in each report includes the name of the organization, charges the organization was found responsible for, investigation and resolution dates, a general description of the misconduct and sanctions applied to the organization.

If you have questions or concerns about an organization, please contact our office by email srccenter@colostate.edu or by phone 970-491-7165

Sanction Types Defined

The All University Hearing Board AUHB or Hearing Officer may apply two different types of sanctions to an organization found responsible through the student conduct process. These are Discretionary Outcomes and Disciplinary Standing. Both have been defined below as well as further explanation provided where applicable.

Disciplinary Standing is a sanction that may be applied when a student or organization is found responsible for a violation of the Student Conduct Code. A disciplinary standing alone does not require any action from the student or organization. However, some disciplinary standings may limit certain privileges otherwise afforded to student organizations at the University. Below are the three different standings that may be applied to a student organization.

Disciplinary Probation – Disciplinary probation is for a designated period of time during which an organization is expected to show appropriate changes in behavior. A violation of the Student Conduct Code while an organization is on disciplinary probation or any subsequent misconduct, may result in further disciplinary action, including loss of good standing or a loss of recognition.

Loss of Good Standing – Loss of good standing is for a designated period of time during which the student organization is expected to show appropriate changes in behavior.

An organization who is not in good standing with the University and is prohibited from:

  • representing the University through official events
  • serving on a University committee
  • participating in intercollegiate or sports club athletics

A violation of the Student Conduct Code while an organization is not in good standing or any subsequent misconduct, may result in further disciplinary action, including loss of recognition. A student organization may be given the opportunity to earn back their good standing at the discretion of the Hearing Officer.

Loss of Student Organization Recognition – The AUHB or Hearing Officer may recommend to the Dean of Students that a student organization lose recognition after a student conduct hearing. Approval of this action deprives the student organization of the use of campus resources, the use of the University’s name, and the right to participate in campus sponsored activities or recruit Colorado State University students. This loss of recognition may be for a specific period, for an indefinite period of time, or until stated conditions are met. Should the Dean of Students approve this action, an official request will also be sent to the national office that the local student organization’s charter be revoked.

Discretionary Outcomes are sanctions that may be assigned when a student or organization is found responsible for a violation of the Student Conduct Code or in conjunction with an alternative resolution process. These outcomes are intended to provide appropriate education, conflict management, support, and accountability for a student organization as a result of their behavior.
